The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Plant Industries Division, Pesticide Control Program, has a full-time position located in the St. Louis, Missouri region which includes the southern portions of St. Louis City and St. Louis County (Warren, St. Charles or Franklin counties).  Applicant must live in or be willing to relocate to one of the following counties: St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Warren, St. Charles or Franklin counties.

Job Description:

Responsible for investigating possible violations of state and federal pesticide statutes and conducting periodic inspections of pesticide producers, dealers and applicators for compliance with established manufacturing, registration, licensure, usage, storage, and disposal standards for pesticides. Work is performed under the general supervision of the program administrator and is primarily reviewed through the submission of activity, inspection and investigation reports.  Requires considerable knowledge of pesticide regulations, pesticide control practices and investigative procedures.

 This position is responsible for various duties which include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigation of public complaints and law enforcement agency referrals for possible violations of state and federal pesticide laws, collecting written statements, physical and documentary evidence, preparing and submitting detailed reports.
  • Inspection of pesticide applicators and dealers by reviewing use and sales records, licensure, storage areas and disposal practices for compliance with applicable statutes and standards.
  • Inspection of pesticide retail establishments for unregistered, canceled or restricted-use pesticides.
  • Providing educational and regulatory information to the public and to the regulated community through various speaking engagements. Requires proficient use of word, data and email processing as well as extensive travel in the performance of assigned duties. 

 Minimum Qualifications and Education

One year of experience in one or more of the areas described below and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in agriculture, biology, environmental science, business administration or public administration.  (Graduate education in biology, chemistry, environmental science, entomology, plant pathology, forestry, agronomy, or a closely related area may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required work experience.)

Special Qualifying Experience

1.  Professional or technical experience in the pesticide industry which affords a knowledge of property pesticide application, restriction and usage.

Special Requirements

1.  Ability to obtain proper pesticide certification in accordance with Department of Agriculture standards and timeframes.
2.  Ability to pass a medical exam as prescribed by the Department of Agriculture after a conditional offer of employment is made.

Special Qualifying Experience

1.  Professional or technical experience in the pesticide industry which affords a knowledge of proper pesticide application, restrictions, and usage.
