The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Grain Inspection and Warehousing Division has a part-time Grain Sampler position in the St. Joseph Area.  Starting salary is $11.55 an hour plus a $5.00 pay differential when working on shuttle trains.

This is semi-skilled manual work in the grain inspection program of the Department of Agriculture.
An employee in this class obtains grain samples and inspects carriers prior to loading of grain. The employee receives training in sampling procedures established by the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS). Work is performed under the supervision from a Grain Inspector or other designated superior.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Completion of the eighth school grade plus six months of work experience (Additional work experience may be substituted for deficiencies in the required education).
Completion of tenth grade.
Special Requirements
Ability to obtain USDA/FGIS licenses to sample grain within established timeframes.

Job Duties
This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.
Receives training in the FGIS grain sampling procedures.
Inspects railcars, barges, trucks and/or other carriers to ensure they are in proper condition for loading and free from leaks, odors, infestation, etc.
Obtains representative samples of grain utilizing procedures specified by the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS).
Observes and verifies the weighing of barges and railcars by grain company employees.
Maintains grain sampling equipment properly.
Completes sample pan tickets and work records.
Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills
Some knowledge of state and federal laws, policies, rules and regulations relating to grain sampling.
Ability to operate a variety of sampling devices.
Ability to perceive distinctions in grain color and odor.
Ability to understand and effectively follow instructions and established procedures.
Ability to complete basic forms.
Ability to adapt to and work in an environment that may include factors such as noise, foul air, grain dust, inclement weather, extreme heights and moving machinery.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, grain businesses, others in the grain trade and the general public.
