The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Division of Plant Industries, Feed, Seed and Treated Timber Program, Feed Laboratory, has a full-time position located in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Job Description:
This is professional chemical analytical work in the Department of Agriculture Feed Laboratory. The employee in this position will perform chemical and/or microbiological analysis using recognized analytical methods for the determination of feed and treated timber components. This position is responsible for the accurate performance of technical duties with minimal supervision. Work involves the use of normal laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens, furnaces, pipettors, volumetric glassware, etc., and chemicals such as acids, bases, organic solvents, etc. Work will involve analyzing for mineral content in animal feed, pet food and treated timber products using applicable sample digestion procedures with determination of mineral elements using Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AA) instrumentation; crude fat by hydrolysis in pet foods; crude fiber in feeds and other selected testing procedures. Work will include sample preparation and grinding on a weekly basis. Calculate and report sample results, maintain all work records concerning analytical work performed, and prepare written reports as required. Review of commercial feed labels submitted with samples to ensure labeling compliance with the Missouri Feed Law.

Minimum Qualifications and Salary:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in chemistry, biology or related science, and three years of experience as an analytical chemist preferred (Graduate work in chemistry may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience).
