Job Description:

An employee in this position is responsible for development and management of the state wide pet food regulatory program. The employee is responsible to develop and coordinate an inspection plan for pet food facilities to assure compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices and compliance with the Missouri Commercial Feed Law and applicable federal laws. The employee has responsibility to establish a regulatory sampling plan and communicate and coordinate with management and inspectors to collect samples to assure nutritive and biological compliance with state and federal laws. The employee will be responsible for review of pet food label claims for compliance with applicable laws. This position is responsible for development of compliance and regulatory communication with pet food firms both in and out of the state. The employee must have the ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, businesses, associations, and federal/state agencies. The person in this position must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication and be capable of preparing complete and concise reports. Both in and out of state travel will be required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the program administrator or other designated administrative superior and is primarily reviewed through the submission of activity reports; however, the employee exercises independence and initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities within established guidelines.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in professional feed regulatory, feed industry or closely related work; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in animal nutrition, animal science, food science or closely related areas including at least six semester hours in nutrition or animal science. (A Master's degree in the above areas, including a minimum of six hours in nutrition or animal science may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required experience.) Experience in the feed industry or feed regulation is highly desirable.
