Weights & Measures Inspector I
Starting Salary: $33,276 annually

The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection, Device and Commodity Inspection Program has a full-time position located in Jackson County Missouri. The domicile for this position is Jackson County. Applicants in other areas considered if willing to relocate.

Job Summary:
This is technical work conducting small scale inspections for the Department of Agriculture within a designated area of the state. Work involves the inspection and certification of commercial weighing and measuring devices, ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal statutes and regulations of the Division of Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection. This position inspects commercial weighing and measuring devices such as scales for proper installation, method of operation and accuracy; conducts package inspection regarding net weight labeling; conducts price verifications, inspects shell eggs for size, grade and quality in grocery stores, institutions or other outlets offering them for sale on the consumer level; and violations of the egg, milk and meat sales practices; maintain state vehicle and assigned inspection and sampling equipment; plan and schedule work activities to achieve established goals; prepare and submit activity, inspection and expense reports; perform other related work as assigned.

The applicant should have a working knowledge of inspection methods, principles and techniques; state and federal statutes, rules and regulations; the ability to communicate effectively and apply weights and measures statutes and regulations; ability to maintain basic records and perform basic calculations; ability to adapt to and work in an environment that may include factors such as inclement weather and hazardous terrain; ability to independently establish and complete daily work schedules; ability to handle 50 pound weights, inspection and sampling devices; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public and to travel periodically in the performance of assigned duties.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
At least two years of work experience involving public contact and graduation from a standard high school or possession of GED certificate. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Missouri drivers license and a good driving record.
