The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Weights Measures & Consumer Protection Division has a full-time benefited position located in Rolla, Missouri with the Land Survey Program.

Job Description:
An employee in this position will perform administrative and secretarial duties requiring a high degree of independent judgment and discretion. Work may include organizing, researching and completing special reports and assignments. This employee will be required to work with the Land Survey Index (LSI). The LSI is a database of nearly 1.8 million land survey records. Duties will include indexing a part of the records received by the Program each month. Knowledge of the United States Public Land Survey System, and the ability to understand a property description is beneficial. Duties may include participating in departmental, Land Survey Commission and program activities, requiring extensive knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Direction is received in terms of objectives and timeframes and supervision is received through personal interaction with the State Land Surveyor and other program staff, including Field Surveys Section and Repository Section.
The employee may act as a representative in interacting with the public, commission, Director's Office, Governor's Office, legislators, special interest groups and other state and federal agencies by responding to inquiries and complaints, explaining policies, procedures, and regulations, resolving problems and receiving and disseminating directives. The employee will assist the State Land Surveyor in coordinating specified program activities inside and outside the agency. This position will perform administrative duties including scheduling and planning meetings and conference calls, preparing agendas, documents, presentations, travel and conference arrangements and assist with a variety of special projects. This position will review incoming correspondence, screen calls and assist visitors. This position will maintain confidentiality and integrity of all department information.
This position may require independent problem solving and decision making; a thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment and secretarial practices and procedures. This position requires a proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. The position will require support service functions such as reconciliation of expenditures in the fiscal tracking system to the statewide accounting system, maintenance of files and records and procurement of supplies. This position will require tracking of purchases/orders from the Online Store, including the Land Survey Index and Corner Master Index. The employee must exercise sound judgment and organization of work; ability to maintain current knowledge of issues, problems, situations and activities of special interest to the program and commission. Must be able to apply, interpret and make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Have the ability to learn, apply and explain agency rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to maintain administrative, fiscal and general records; ability to prepare and substantiate reports; ability to prioritize, plan and carry out administrative and office management details; ability to compose correspondence; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, read and comprehend written materials; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide a high level of customer service when interacting with other employees, state officials and the general public and to receive visitors in a professional manner. There will be some driving to commission meetings, conferences with professional organizations, county offices, and infrequent overnight travel. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of clerical experience including three years in advanced clerical or administrative experience comparable to Senior Office Support Assistant under the UCP system, or as an Administrative Assistant, Legal Secretary or Office Manager which must have involved composing correspondence, maintaining calendars, tracking deadlines, facilitating meetings, accounting, etc. (Training from a vocational or business school in office management, secretarial science or closely related field or coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.)
