Missouri Department of Agriculture and Food Export Association of the Midwest Internship
This position is funded through the Food Export Association of the Midwest USA (Food Export) located in Chicago, IL. The intern will be stationed at the Jefferson City, MO, office of the Missouri Department of Agriculture (Department), and working with the Domestic & International Marketing Program (Program), but classified as an independent contractor with Food Export. Term of Employment: March 1 start date. The length of the internship will be negotiable based on availability and performance of the selected candidate.
Salary: $12.00/hour, at an average of 100 hours/month or 25 hours/week. The schedule is flexible depending on the candidate's availability and needs.
Requirements: The applicant must be a student enrolled in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate) with at least six months remaining until graduation. An applicant must also be a U.S. citizen or have a visa that permits the individual to work in the United States. Students seeking degrees in international affairs, marketing, communications or agricultural fields are preferred. Candidates for this position must be good communicators and able to converse easily in a meeting situation. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is necessary. The individual must be able to travel in the state of Missouri and have their own means of transportation. Reimbursement for pre-approved, travel expenses in-state, with the exception of travel to and from the office, will be provided.
Responsibilities: The selected intern will be responsible for the following:
Update/maintain the Department's and Food Export's database of food and agricultural suppliers.
Assist with the recruitment for the Department's and Food Export's events and programs.
Assist with the organization and preparation for trade shows and missions- both domestic and international.
Conduct market research on specific products and countries.
Aid in the creation of newsletters, marketing materials and other outreach efforts.
Meet with small to medium sized value-added companies across the state to provide education on Food Export's programs.
Generate success stories from companies that have participated in the Department and Food Export activities and events.
Other duties as assigned by the Department or Food Export staff.
Training: The selected intern shall participate in a series of telephone conference calls and internet training sessions with Food Export.
Reporting: The selected intern will be required to submit a weekly report to the Marketing Program and a monthly activity/progress report with each invoice to Food Export.
